Chicken Roll Recipe in Detail

Chicken rolls are a delicious and versatile dish, perfect for a snack, appetizer, or even a main course. Here's a simple recipe for making savory chicken rolls:

Ingredients:

For the Chicken Filling:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 1 small onion, finely diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 bell pepper (any color), finely diced

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your choice)

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Roll Assembly:

  • 1 package (about 8 sheets) of puff pastry or pizza dough (thawed if frozen)

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • Flour, for dusting

  • Additional cheese or herbs for topping (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken Filling:

    • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.

    • Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 2-3 minutes.

    • Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.

    • Add the finely chopped chicken and cook until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally.

    • Add the diced bell pepper and cook for another 2-3 minutes until softened.

    • Season with paprika, dried oregano, ground cumin, salt, and pepper.

    • Stir in the shredded cheese until melted and well combined.

    • Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.

  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry or Pizza Dough:

    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

    • If using puff pastry, roll out each sheet on a lightly floured surface to smooth out creases. If using pizza dough, roll out to about 1/8-inch thickness.

    • Cut the dough into rectangles or squares (about 4x4 inches).

  3. Assemble the Rolls:

    • Place a spoonful of the chicken filling in the center of each dough rectangle.

    • Fold the dough over the filling to form a roll or a pocket. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork or pinching them together.

    • Place the rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. Bake:

    • Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg to give them a golden color.

    • Optionally, sprinkle with additional cheese or herbs for extra flavor.

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and puffed up.

  5. Serve:

Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving. They are delicious on their own or with a dipping sauce like marinara, ranch, or a spicy mayo.

Enjoy your homemade chicken rolls! Feel free to customize the filling with your favorite ingredients, like spinach, mushrooms, or different cheeses.
